About this tool
Compress Image runs in your browser. It measures the real file size after each encode, then lowers quality and, when needed, dimensions until the result is within the target or the safe limits are reached. A smaller target can reduce detail. JPEG and WebP are better for aggressive size cuts. PNG stays lossless in the browser, so it may not reach a very small target. Not every picture can reach every size.
Supported formats and limitations
Supports common browser-readable images such as JPG, PNG, and WebP. Transparency support depends on the selected output format.
Very large images can use more memory on phones or older browsers. Save a copy of important originals before editing.
FAQ
Can every image reach 20 KB?
No. The tool tries quality changes and proportional resizing, then shows the smallest file it could make. If the target is missed, the status says the target was not achieved.
How does target size compression work?
The image is decoded, then encoded again at different quality levels. The byte size of each result is measured. If quality alone is not enough, the picture is scaled down while keeping its aspect ratio.
What is the tradeoff between quality and file size?
Lower quality and smaller dimensions usually create a smaller file. Fine detail, text, and flat color can look softer after a strong reduction.
Which formats are supported?
You can add JPG, PNG, and WebP. The output can be JPEG, PNG, or WebP. AVIF appears only when this browser can encode it. Transparent PNG images are not turned into JPEG unless you choose JPEG and a background color.
Does the image leave my device?
No. Compression stays in your browser. The file is not uploaded to a server.
